Rocksteady teaches children to play music together in real bands — featuring vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. Rather than learning an instrument on their own, your child will join a band of up to nine children and start playing songs together from their very first lesson.
Lessons mostly take place during the school day and are led by highly trained, multi-instrumentalist musicians who guide children through weekly rehearsals at a pace that works for everyone. And it's not just about the music — children get a real sense of ownership in their band too, from choosing their band name to picking the songs they want to play.
Learning through playing: Everything is learned by ear — picking up their part, listening to their bandmates, and growing in confidence week by week. No prior experience needed, no barriers — just music the way kids love it: by playing and learning together.
Building towards something amazing: Regular termly concerts give children an exciting goal to work towards and a chance to demonstrate what they've achieved — a moment that tends to make parents very proud too! Over time, children develop not just musical ability, but real collaboration, listening and teamwork skills that go far beyond the classroom.
This approach to teaching is shown to lead to a lasting passion for music. 9 out of 10 Rocksteady pupils want to continue music in secondary school, and 85% of parents of former Rocksteady children say they now have a passion for music.
